5 Reasons You Should Visit The Alternative Rainbow Mountain of Palccoyo

The Alternative Rainbow Mountain of Palccoyo

This post was most recently updated on September 1st, 2019

While visiting Peru you might want to take in the spectacular scenery in the Andes. The area has incredible peaks and mountains. Some covered in snow (Ausangate) and others with the colors of the rainbow like those at the alternative Rainbow Mountain of Palccoyo.

Although I am betting that when you think of Rainbow Mountain you are probably thinking of Vinicunca and not of Palccoyo. Vinicunca with its multicolored bands of soil resembling a rainbow was discovered about 6 or 7 years ago. It has grown in popularity at such an impressive rate, much thanks to social media, that now approximately 1000 people visit daily.

More recently though, a new option has come to light – the alternative Rainbow Mountain of Palccoyo. Some also call it the Three Rainbows, because you will have not one, but three different rainbow mountains to see.

Now that you know that two different options exist you might be wondering if Palccoyo is the right choice for you. So here are my top 5 reasons why you should visit the alternative rainbow mountain of Palccoyo.

A Day Trek to Humantay Lake – A Hidden Paradise in The Andes Mountains

Day Trek to Humantay Lake

I would venture to say that Humantay Lake is one of the most beautiful bodies of water that I have seen. And possibly one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Andean region.

The Andes mountains that surround the Cusco area are some of the most magnificent of Peru. Therefore, many embark on multi day hikes like the long and challenging Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu to immerse themselves in the natural beauty the area has to offer.

However, not everyone has the time, money or physical ability to complete the Salkantay trek. And fortunately there are other time saving and more cost effective options available to experience the splendor of the Andes. One of the best being a day trek to Humanity Lake, a hidden paradise in the Andes mountains. And best of all the amazing views of Humantay Lake are easy to get to as a day trip from Cusco.

Ontario’s Wine Country: A Visit to Peller Estates

When you hear Niagara, the first thought tends to be the iconic Niagara Falls. But I am here to show you that there is much more to this region than the majestic Falls. Actually, just a short 30 min drive away there is a totally different side to Niagara that is very much worth exploring. I am talking about Niagara Wine Country Trail and the beautiful Peller Estates. The area is reminiscent of the early Napa Valley and filled with vineyards for as long as the eye can see.

Since I did not have much time to visit I had to select just one winery to give me a taste of what the wine country region had to offer. I called several prominent vineyards in the area to ensure that all members of my party would enjoy the experience. And after speaking with Peller Estates my choice became clear. Peller Estates is family friendly and caters to everyone including the younger members of our group. I think the reason they are so family friendly is because the winery itself is a family owned business so they understand how important family is. Our family enjoyed the experience so much that I wanted to share it with you.

Traveling has always been one of my favorite things to do. Exploring new places, experiencing the culture, food and meeting the people. All of it is thrilling to me.  But one thing I have never been a fan of is crowds. And many of the most popular destinations, while amazing, tend to be very crowded. So I am always looking for underrated destinations to visit.

What do I mean by underrated destinations? These are places that are incredible to visit but are a bit more off the beaten path. That receive many less visitors a year than popular places like Paris with close to 20 million visiting yearly.

So I asked a few of my travel blogger friends to share their favorite underrated destinations and why you should visit them. So if you like to travel and see amazing places but would rather avoid the masses here are 13 underrated destinations (in no particular order) that you should visit as recommended by travel bloggers:

Visiting The Faroe Islands – A Hidden Treasure of Unspoiled Landscapes

Funningur in the Faroe Islands

This post was most recently updated on August 28th, 2019

Visiting the Faroe Islands is a treat to all your senses. The small archipelago of the Faroe Islands is located between Scotland and Iceland.  And unlike Iceland, the Faroes still remain a hidden treasure. Comprised of 18 islands and owned by Denmark, the Faroes are a wonderland of unspoiled landscapes, soaring cliffs, roaring waterfalls and quiet villages.

Being somewhat remote many have not yet ventured out to explore these magnificent lands. However, I do not expect the raw beauty of the Faroes to be unnoticed much longer. It is becoming much more accessible. And with accessibility, tourism will start to blossom and more people will be visiting the Faroe Islands. Therefore you might want to go on your Faroe Islands holiday sooner rather than later.
