How I Travel While Working & How You CAN Too

Hi I am Jo.  I did not sell all my possessions to travel solo around the world!  I do however manage to travel to incredible destinations while having a busy regular life.

And guess what? So can you!

Who I Am

I am happily married woman with 2 beautiful girls and 2 rescue dogs.  I have a busy home life and a regular 9 to 5 job.

I am Latina. Born and raised in Venezuela but with European roots. I live in the USA and left my heart in Scotland. I love it so much you will find a full section in this blog dedicated just to Scotland.

I love adventure travel and you will most often find me in the great outdoors. While I do not like to exercise in the gym I love spending time hiking, kayaking and walking in nature.

That does not mean I do not enjoy a great city escape. I find cities provide great cultural and culinary experiences and make for great weekend getaways.

Why I Travel

I travel because I love to learn and connect with others. I travel because the places, people and experiences open my mind. I travel for the thrill, the challenge and the adventure. Those are my reasons, and whatever your reasons for travel, one thing is certain -Travel Changes You!

Travel has always played an important part of my life and experiences.  Aside from local travel in my native home I was fortunate to travel outside of the country. We were not rich, but my mom worked for the airlines and we had family living in Europe, US, and Canada. So from an early age I spent time traveling and visiting these places.

As a young adult I spent a summer backpacking through Europe and visiting about 12 countries. Sleeping on trains, boats, hostels, and even people’s homes.  Yes this was way before the days of AirBnB or couch surfing.

As an adult I spent time in faraway places like Australia, and on road trips in the USA with my family, as well as some nice getaways with just my husband.

Travel has undoubtedly shaped my life. And no mater how busy I am I will always find time to travel.

How I Travel & How You CAN Travel Too

Simply put I make travel a priority. You do not have to give up on other things you want in life like a career or family. But you do need to shift your priorities and focus.

For me that translates to saving both cash and points/miles from credit cards. It means using ALL my vacation days.  Can you believe that 40% of Americans leave vacation on the table?  I honestly don’t understand this.

I do not get much vacation time, but I put it to good use. I plan my travel around weekends and holidays to help stretch the time off. If you have a job in which you travel then use that to your advantage and extend the time or arrive early to explore a new location.

Don’t be afraid to go alone. You do not have to wait for someone to go with you in order visit that place you have been dreaming about. Solo travel can be very rewarding.  Give it a try you may like it.

If it all seems to overwhelming then start small and stay local.  You do not need to conquer the world you can always start by exploring a nearby city. Every place can be an adventure it does not have to be far away.

I know for some of you travel can be stressful but for me travel is a journey that enriches your life. It’s self-discovery. It’s tasting something new for the first time. It’s buzzing cities and never-ending landscapes. It is thrilling adventures and peaceful retreats. It’s laughing, crying, meeting new people, and a feeling of coming home to a place you have never seen before.

Travel is an experience that transforms you and I want to share that with you and help inspire you to find your own adventure.

Happy Roving….
